Competency: Public Speaking, Communication Skills

The ‘new normal’ is the ‘now normal’ and that means that we are on camera for school, business meetings, social events and more. Are you comfortable turning your camera on? Are you comfortable with public speaking in general? It is very likely that your next interview will be virtual, or you will be asked to make a presentation as part of a school assignment. In this certification, students will learn 6 tips to be able to say they ACED IT during their next presentation! 

Become Customer Obsessed

Learning models: Teacher-Directed, Self-Directed, Live Delivery

Competency: Customer Service

Customer service – such commonly said words, but do you really know what it means? This certification will focus on defining what customer service is and the importance it has in service delivery. Topics will include secret tips (not so secret anymore) on improving your customer service skills and highlight businesses that get it right and wrong!

Get To Know Your Skills

Learning models: Teacher-Directed, Self-Directed, Live Delivery

Competency: Portfolio Development

Students will explore the connections between their high school courses, extracurricular activities, and other life experiences as transferable employability skills. As students develop their skills portfolio, they will learn the critical components in creating a LinkedIn profile (draft) including an assignment that will assist them when they are ready to make a profile for themselves. In this certification they will also gain an understanding of how companies hire.

Go From Zero To Hero In Project Management

Learning models: Teacher-Directed, Self-Directed, Live Delivery

Competencies: Project Management, Event Coordination, Group Dynamics

Students will build knowledge and skills for leading and implementing projects and events as they are guided through the project management process. Using our project management approach, students learn how to effectively plan a project or event including how to set objectives, conduct risk assessment and create a plan.  

Success from projects and events come from the tasks completed by the team members – these members form groups and therefore managing group dynamics is critical in being a successful project manager!  

Evidence suggests that groups typically outperform individuals; groups compared to individuals are more flexible, have an increased variety of skills/experiences and stronger ability to set objectives. Students will learn the phases behind the theory of group dynamics (Tuckman’s Theory), group types, structure and roles.

Human-Centered Conflict Resolution

Learning models: Teacher-Directed, Self-Directed, Live Delivery

Competency: Conflict Resolution

Students will explore how communication and empathy can be powerful tools during conflict as they learn about conflict resolution. This certification also covers strategies that will enable them to face future conflicts with more confidence.

Infection Prevention & Control

Learning option: Teacher-Directed, Self-Directed

Competency: Infection Control

The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly raised awareness on the importance of infection control and prevention. This certification will introduce the student to what infections are, how they spread and routine practices for prevention. Infection prevention and control (IPAC) is a common phrase that is practiced in all health care settings; this certification is a sneak peek into speaking that language.

Innovation, Creativity And Entrepreneurship

Learning models: Teacher-Directed, Self-Directed

Competency: Sector-partnered experience – ICE

The need for innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship has never been greater as every industry is currently challenged in light of COVID-19. Students will explore the impact of a global pandemic using the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Students will select one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals then work through the 3 Gears framework to develop ideas and solutions while unlocking their own innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial mindset.

Innovation, Creativity And Entrepreneurship

Learning option: Live Delivery

Competency: Sector-partnered experience – ICE

The need for an innovative, creative and entrepreneurial mindset has never been greater, with all industries undergoing significant change driven by technology automation and access to data, and now, COVID-19. 

In the Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship certificate, students will learn and apply design thinking skills as they work through the 3 Gears framework in order to develop solutions to help a sector-specific Community Partner address a real-world problem. 

This certification includes live instruction scheduled over 1 full school day. When booking ICE, please allow for a 4-week preparation period when selecting your start date to allow us to confirm the Community Partner. 

 This certificate is developed in partnership with Y2 Entrepreneurship Labs.

Leadership And You

Learning models: Teacher-Directed, Self-Directed, Live Delivery

Competency: Leadership Skills

Students will begin to uncover their emerging leadership style as they explore characteristics and skills of different leadership styles. This certification will also outline the importance of leadership in their personal life and future career pathway.  

Mastering Mental Health & Stress Management

Learning models: Teacher-Directed, Self-Directed, Live Delivery

Competencies: Stress Management Techniques & Mental Health Awareness

 

The goal of this certificate is to increase students’ knowledge on the topics of basic mental health and stress management strategies. This certification will cover basic signs of poor or worsening mental health, active communication skills that can be used to open safe conversations and combat stigma, as well as intentional self-care strategies that can be used to maintain positive mental health and well-being in everyday life.

Students will learn how to identify signs of stress within their own lives as well as recognize the signs in others and will gain an understanding of the importance of stress management as well as a variety of techniques that can be used to deal with short-term and long-term stress.

Safety Awareness & Injury Identification

Learning models: Self-Directed

Competency: First Aid Awareness

This certification will teach you how to safely approach accidents including the steps to help victims in emergencies and attaining help from others. You will learn about environmental emergencies, unconscious victims, and bleeding. In addition the certification will include bone and joint injuries, shock and anaphylaxis emergencies. This content-rich certification focuses on defining, identifying, and treating injuries. 

Although this certification has been developed by a certified First Aid instructor, it is important to note that upon completion you are not certified in First Aid and CPR. Students receive a First Aid Awareness certification of completion.
